One of the most important questions to ask regarding your wedding invitations is how many to order. Do you know the correct formula for calculating how many you should order? If not, the tips below should help greatly!
The number of wedding invitations you order is not directly related to the number of guests you are inviting. The only circumstance where that would be the case is if you are inviting only single guests, and that never happens! Follow these guidelines to determine the quantity that you should order.
You should order one invitation for each of the following types of guests:
- Single guests
- Families – This includes parents and children living in the same household. If a family has adult children living in separate households, send one invitation to each household.
- Your wedding planner and/or photographer – he/she will keep one to photograph
- Your officiant
You should also always order about 15-20 extra invitations (or about 15% extra) just in case. You might want to keep extras for yourself as mementos, you might think of a handful of extra guests to invite, and if you are using a calligrapher, he or she will likely request a few extras in case of mistakes.
I hope this helps you to better understand how to calculate the number of invitations you should order for your wedding! If you still have any questions, please leave them in the comments below and I will do my best to answer them!
